FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
General Questions
Where did Dr. Capurro go to school and/or receive her training?
I got my undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. Then I moved to Los Angeles, where I got my Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles. I'd be happy to talk more about my training experiences with you if you're interested. Please feel free to ask during our initial consultation meeting.
When is Dr. Capurro available to see clients?
Starting in January of 2022, she will be available to see clients Monday through Thursday.
What are some of the benefits of therapy?
Therapy can help in SO many ways! The benefits that you will experience will be based on your goals and your investment in the process. We can discuss this further during our first meeting.
How will I know if Dr. Capurro is the right therapist for me?
I really believe that the relationship between therapist and client is the most important thing in order for therapy to be effective. If you don't feel safe to open up in a genuine way, it is difficult to imagine us being able to really get you the results you are hoping for. I pride myself on my ability to connect with my clients and to help make you comfortable to engage deeply in the process of therapy. However, if you are feeling like something is off, or we are just not connecting, that is okay! Please talk to me about it. We can certainly discuss other options.
Do you offer Grief Groups or other support-style or therapy groups?
I would LOVE to offer Grief Groups and other groups (like support-style groups for new mothers, a group for individuals suffering from chronic or terminal illness, or Relaxation and Mindfulness Groups). At this time, however, I do not have the space to do so. If you are interested in such services, please talk with me and we can explore our options.
Is everything we talk about in therapy confidential?
Everything that is discussed in therapy is completely confidential. There are a few limits to confidentiality, such as if the therapist is concerned there is imminent risk that the client will harm him/her self or others. In that case and a few other rare cases, I am legally mandated to break confidentiality and make a report of such information. This and other limits of confidentiality will be discussed during the initial consultation meeting.
Appointments
How do I make an appointment?
You may make an appointment by calling me or sending me a message. Please click here or contact me by phone or email.

What do I need to bring to the first session? Subsequent sessions?
At the first session, you will bring in your intake paperwork, which will be sent to you when we set up your appointment. You will also want to bring your picture ID, a credit card (for me to have on-file in case of no-show), and whatever form of payment you're choosing to use. For all subsequent sessions, you will just need your form of payment.
What can I expect from the initial appointment? From a typical session?
During the initial appointment, we will go over all of the intake paperwork, which includes all consent forms, policies and procedures, and HIPAA and confidentiality forms.
The initial session will be used for us to get to know one another. The format of this session may feel a little more structured, as I will be asking a lot of questions so that I can start to get to know who you are and what you are hoping to get from therapy.
A typical therapy session will be less structured, but the exact format of each session will be dependent on your presenting concerns and goals for our work together. We can discuss this further at your initial appointment.
How many appointments will I need and how often?
Typically, we will meet either every week or every other week. However, the amount of sessions and the frequency really does depend on what you are coming in for. We can talk more about this during our initial consultation.
